Swap indexes without downtime

Rebuilding an index used to mean a few minutes of missing results, or a second index and a config change in your app. Now you build the new version next to the live one and swap them in a single task.

Searches move to the new documents and settings at once. The old index keeps the previous version, so you can swap back if something looks wrong. Read the full walkthrough in Syncing a database.

• POST /v1/swap-indexes, available in every SDK as swapIndexes, swap_indexes, SwapIndexes and swap_indexes.
• indexSwap tasks in the dashboard’s task list.

Fixed

• Settings updates on an empty index no longer wait behind document tasks on other indexes.
